Abstract
This essay analyzes, with the use of certain Lacanian categories and notions such as gaze, countenance and compulsive consumption acts in Sofia Coppola’s latest film, The Bling Ring, to show the rule of the ego ideal.
With these conceptual tools certain scenes are studied where the phenomenum of the small tribes and selfies are highlighted, showing the current behaviours of the 21st century. Simultaneously, and towards the end of the work, a scene is underscored, showing the exquisite detail in the film as it unveils the most pulsional aspect of the young protagonist’s sexuation process.
Key words: Image | Selfies | consumption | drive | compulsion
