Abstract
Film theories are key tools for the epistemological inquiry of cinematography from its enunciation, message and reception. The purpose of this research is to provide a panoramic view of the evolution of film theories, from their classical foundations to contemporary currents, with an emphasis on reception theories. For this purpose, a bibliographic research using a theoretical-descriptive methodology is proposed. It is concluded that cinematographic theories have accompanied cinema since its very beginning and have been a fundamental piece for its understanding, discussion, but also for artistic creation. At present, theories focused on audiences predominate, without neglecting the enunciation and the message, but taking into account the prevailing social needs.
